**Hocus Pocus**, the 1994 platformer by Moonlite Software and Apogee, on Amstrad CPC 6128.

Hocus, apprentice wizard, must collect every crystal of each level to prove himself to Terexin and the Council of Wizards, and win the hand of his beloved Popopa. Lightning bolts, potions, levers, keys and teleporters... and monsters at every turn.

This is episode 1 of the shareware version (1.1), rewritten in Z80 assembly. The game logic follows the original bit for bit: the demos recorded in the PC version play back identically on the CPC.

**Features**

- All 9 levels of episode 1, in 4 worlds, and the ending

- Hardware scrolling in 8-pixel steps, double buffering, 16 colours per world

- Everything from the original: lasers, rapid fire, super jump, invisibility, hidden blocks, lever combinations, keys and doors, teleporters, the wizard's hints

- The title screen and menu of the PC version, with its pages of text

- Three skill levels

- The game's MIDI music arranged for the AY chip, and its 16 sound effects

- Optional parallax background (F key)

- Redefinable keys and two-button joystick

**How to play**

Insert `hocus.dsk` and type `RUN"DISC`. A single side holds the whole episode.

Controls: arrows or O/P to move; up or Q for action (levers, doors, teleporters) and to fire upwards; down or A to look down; SPACE or Z to jump; COPY, CTRL or X to fire; RETURN to pause; ESC to go back to the title. Letter keys can be redefined in the options menu.

**Requirements**

An Amstrad CPC 6128 (128 KB), or an emulator: WinAPE, ACE-DL, Caprice32, RetroVirtualMachine... The disk is a standard Data format disk (40 tracks, 9 sectors).

**Credits**

CPC port: Lake Software. Original game: Moonlite Software, published by Apogee Software, 1994. Fan-made and non-commercial: not affiliated with or endorsed by Apogee or Moonlite Software. Hocus Pocus is a trademark of Apogee.

A bit slow; I changed it to "CPU fast" on the MiSTer FPGA and it works great now—thanks!

dont set the paralax and tell me please

Paralax OFF with regular CPU  works fine

Paralax ON with fast CPU  works fine

cool ! parallax had been added for fun but playability slows down because the poor z80 cant handle it

I remember playing it on PC

Me too and loved it. Sorry for the graphics, but I did my best. Not easy to keep all in 16 colors with good contrast

Also, I made it as polished as I could. And made the musics sound like the best I could
